“LOOK VERY OUT OF PLACE” You aren’t wearing a Beret Anton, jeepers what is WRONG With You.
THIS PAGE IS INTERESTING because there isnt much going. Its a page of Virgil berating Anton in every Panel. This could have just been one panel, but it is six so its MORE than More Virgil dressing Anton Down. Visually there is a wedge of Virgils. (Visual Virgils) Each one seen from a different viewpoint. On one hand it reinforces what a complete Spaz Virgil is (AND A HAND TALKER). But it also sets up a sort of crowd to isolate Anton, who remains relatively static in perspective, though nuanced in his reactions. I think its strongly set up in the over the shoulder view in the first panel.
Then in the FOURTH panel, Virgil is just TOWERING AND LOOMING darkly over the Viewer and Anton, before giving Anton the space to remind him “Hey kid, you are completely on your own and unwelcome here in this space!”
The other half of this is the line up of Anton reacting uncomfortably to Virgil. Panels one and five are fairly standard… A Muted perplexed frown of having to put up with someone obnoxious. A tentative glance to the shoes.
But Panel THREE is interesting. I am pretty sure its the closest thing to a kind gesture Virgil has done for Anton, placing his hand on his shoulder. And this has Anton wide eyed, because this is Virgil and Virgil doesn’t DO Comforting. And then he basically tosses Anton to the sharks. But there is just an electric moment of CONTACT there.
Also oh god Virgils nose I want to touch it. Are those edges as sharp as they look?
I can only flabbergast at the sheer amount of analysis you have given this page (and how much of it is correct even though I may have only intended some of it unconsciously???) Anton being baffled by Virgil’s sudden touch of comfort is deliberate at least. Virgil seems to be trying to be sort of nice but also sticking to his JERK CONVICTIONS.
Also Virgil’s nose is probably cartilage, but like, a little sturdier? I have not thought about this yet. Maybe he can straight up CUT PEOPLE with it????
